Her name is Ella and she is exactly ten days old. She’s cute as a button and must surely be the most frequently cuddled and kissed baby on this planet. We’re both totally over the moon. We’re also a little tired, but not as bad as we’d expected - just put the little one wherever you want and she will fall asleep. We feel like we won the lottery - only better!
Yeah, I’ve been slacking a bit lately. But there are, of course, reasons. After having lost my feet a couple of weeks ago (at least judging from what I can see when I look down), I have now lost command over my hands in what seems to be a pregnancy-induced carpal tunnel syndrome. My left hand zonked out about a week ago and hasn’t woken up since. Touching the keyboard - or anything, for that matter - feels weird.
But I’m not complaining! Well, technically I am, but I think I went through the last nine months with only a minimum of whining and am now entitled to a little here and there. At least I was able to walk upright and gracefully until three days ago or so.
It’s only a matter of a couple more days. Or is it?
Yeah, I’m still around and everything is still snug in place. Happy new year.
The thing is, we’re busy doing all the things only dinks can do - like, trying out new restaurants, sleeping in, going to fancy coffee shops, just hanging around without somebody urging us to feed them, change them, etc…. See, and that’s why I didn’t have much online time lately.
A propos new restaurants: There’s this new Mexican place in town, and you can only make reservations if you own a cell phone. Huh. That’s living in the future for you.
Apart from that, everything’s fine. The baby is alive and kicking and I look like some creature out of a Hieronymus Bosch painting. Stay tuned.
How on earth did that happen? I mean, we all know that Christmas tends to come all of a sudden. But this year even more so!
On the plus side: Last Friday was my last day @ the office, and I’ve been more productive over the last five days than I was over the last three months. But most of these activities had to do with nesting or with entertaining friends we only get to see once a year.
Therefore, I never even managed to send off those Christmas e-mails. So to everyone who’s reading this - happy holidays to you & yours!
“While initializing device VKD: Windows protection error. You need to reboot your computer.” That’s what my computer said Sunday night. (Of course, it said the equivalent in German.) So I rebooted. And rebooted. And rebooted. Nothing much changed. And since device VKD and I were never personally introduced, I had no idea where to look for it. So what I did was this: I switched off the computer and went downstairs to watch TV.
Or in other words: My emotional response was no greater than it would have been had the coffee machine given up the ghost. Of course I was mildly annoyed, but I couldn’t be bothered to stay up all night in order to find the mistake.
Like I would have done three years ago.
On Monday I searched the internet at the office, found out that somebody else has had the same problem before (who would’ve thought?), found a suggestion on how to remove the problem, went home, removed the registry and restored an older version. Hey presto! Hooray for operating systems with a DOS shell! I still don’t know what caused the mistake, but again, I can’t be bothered to think about it for more than two minutes. Am I getting old?
However, I’m going to do a major backup session this weekend. Just to be on the safe side.

… to the 8th month of my pregnancy. Everything’s still going swell (get it? get it?), except for the fact that Missy keeps kicking my only internal organ that actually feels pain: my liver. A likes to think that she is practicing overhead kicks and will one day become a soccer world champion.
*Or* maybe it’s not the baby after all, but a massive turkey overdose. Last Saturday we had a few friends over and I cooked this 7 kg bird. We then got a turkey carving 101 from the internet. One friend read it out, A carried out the moves, and another friend video’ed the whole procedure. We could now actually provide a tutorial video on turkey carving… Do you think people would spend money for that?
